چکیده

Superconductors with low superfluid density are often dominated by phase fluctuations of the order parameter. In this regime, their physics may be described by XY models. The transition temperature Tc of such models is of the same order as the zero-temperature phase stiffness helicity modulus , a long-wavelength property of the system: Tc=A 0 . However, the constant A is a nonuniversal number, depending on dimensionality and the degree of inhomogeneity. In this Brief Report, we discuss strategies for maximizing A for two-dimensional XY models; that is, how to maximize the transition temperature with respect to the zerotemperature, long-wavelength properties. We find that a framework type of inhomogeneity can increase the transition temperature significantly. For comparison, we present similar results for Ising models.

Three-dimensional calculations of the magnetic fields in a finite superconducting hollow cylinder in an applied axial magnetic field

In this study, a set of self-consistent coupled-integral equations for the local magnetic flux and current distributions in a finite superconducting hollow cylinder under an axial magnetic field has been directly derived by using the Biot-Savart law within the framework of the critical-state model. The equations were first solved numerically in the three-dimensional space before obtaining the h...

A ug 1 99 6 Two - dimensional XY spin / gauge glasses on periodic and quasiperiodic lattices

Via Monte Carlo studies of the frustrated XY or classical planar model we demonstrate the possibility of a finite (nonzero) temperature spin/gauge glass phase in two dimensions. Examples of both periodic and quasiperiodic two dimensional lattices, where a high temperature paramagnetic phase changes to a spin/gauge glass phase with the lowering of temperature, are presented. The existence of the...

Vortex Fluctuations in Superconductors

The vortex fluctuations have proved to be responsible for the onset of dissipation in thin type-II superconducting Aims. There is also growing evidence that dissipation in hightemperature superconductors exhibits the same kind of two-dimensional (2D) behavior. However, a proper analysis of these materials requires a thorough understanding of the two-dimensional fluctuations. This thesis may be ...

Phase-coherence transition in granular superconductors with π junctions

We study the three-dimensional XY-spin glass as a model for the resistive behavior of granular superconductors containing a random distribution of π junctions, as in high-Tc superconducting materials with d-wave symmetry. The π junctions leads to quenched in circulating currents (chiralities) and to a chiral-glass state at low temperatures, even in the absence of an external magnetic field. Dyn...

Strongly Screened Vortex Lattice Model with Disorder

The three dimensional XY model with quenched random disorder is studied in the strong screening limit, λ→ 0, by defect energy scaling at zero temperature. In zero external field we find that there exists a true superconducting phase with a stiffness exponent θ ' +1.0 for weak disorder. For low magnetic field and weak disorder, we identify an ordered Bragg glass phase which is superconducting. F...
